The Story Behind "JOHN, WHO DIDN’T KNEW HE LIKED BALLOONS."
“Hi, Gelpho here, this is my blog page. I post some more info about the proces of making the painting here:)”
Introduction: Discover the whimsical journey behind my latest artwork, "JOHN, WHO DIDN’T KNEW HE LIKED BALLOONS." This painting captures the pure joy found in unexpected passions and the simple pleasures of life.
The Concept: Inspired by a kid I saw one day who unexpectedly revealed his love for balloons, after seeing a balloon for the first time. This painting attempts to convey the joy of discovering new interests but not being able to express them comfortably due to the idea of what others will think.
Sketching the Idea: Starting with a basic sketch, I experimented with poses and expressions to capture the essence of John's joy. This phase laid the foundation for the visual story I wanted to tell. Its a grown man and he’s very excited but he cant comfortably express that feeling because of the fact that he is a grown man…
Choosing the Palette: Opting for a lively color palette, but dark background. I used cheerful yellows, blues, and reds to mirror the playful spirit of balloons, creating a warm and exciting but also cold atmosphere.
The Execution: With the sketch and colors in mind, I drew his lines with charcoal, started putting paint on the canvas, building up layers for depth. Focusing on John's expression and the floating balloon attached to his ear, I aimed to convey the simple yet profound joy of the moment which in fact is actually hidden. I painted the background, making the focuspoint of the project John himself.
Adding Details: Details brought the painting to life. From the gleam in John's eyes to the gentle float of the balloon, these elements contributed to the overall narrative. Shadows and highlights added the dubble feeling of beeing unable to express your feelings comfortably.
Reflection and Final Touches: Stepping back to reflect on the composition, I made adjustments for balance. Final touches of oil-pastel crayons and small dabs of acrylic paint ensured a harmonious blend of color and form, creating a piece that tells John's story while resonating with viewers. After all that, I coated the work as a whole with several layers of semi-gloss protection varnish to seal the work and apply a protective layer.
Final piece of art:
Conclusion: "JOHN, WHO DIDN'T KNEW HE LIKED BALLOONS." is a celebration of unexpected joy. Through color, details and emotions, the painting invites viewers to embrace the simple pleasures of life. May it serve as a reminder to discover new passions and find joy in the most unlikely places. But also to publicly radiate joy and enthusiasm, not giving a f*ck about what other people will think.
Enjoy those balloons.
Thank you,
-Gelpho
